Carry Your Word Docs and pdf’s on Your Kindle 2
Amazon provides a service to Kindle users which allows them to carry their documents on the Kindle. Need to keep you pdf or Word doc handy? Want to read an e-book, a manual or a whitepaper while you’re out? Carry it on your Kindle. Amazon makes it easy to transfer documents from your computer to your Kindle, using wireless technology or your wired USB connection.
Amazon recently announced it will allow users to send documents with the “docx” (Word 2007) extension to the Kindle 2.0. It is also now supporting “rtf” extensions.
But with that announcement came a fee increase. In the past, many Kindle owners have claimed to send their docs wirelessly to their Kindle without getting charged. It appears that Amazon is going to start charging… and at the tune of 15¢ per megabyte (and they are rounding up).
Want to avoid all the doc charges from Amazon? Simply move your documents from your PC to your Kindle while your Kindle is connected to your computer. Transfer free via USB. Sending them to “yourname”@free.kindle.com will return converted files to your email address for upload to your Kindle. The per megabyte charge is only incurred if you transmit wirelessly using the Whispernet technology. Do it “the old fashioned way” and it’s still free.
