Kindle 3 Coming Soon!
Can Amazon save the print media business with the release of a bigger Kindle, the Kindle 3? It seems like they are
going to give it a shot. A recent invitation to a Amazon press conference has everyone conjecturing that the Kindle 3 release is much closer than anyone thought – perhaps even this week.
Amazon sent out the following invitation to a select group:
“We’d like to invite you to an Amazon.com press conference scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 10:30 am ET. The press conference is scheduled to take place at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University, located at 3 Spruce Street, New York City. Doors will open for registration at 9:30 am ET.” (Peter Kafka of Media Memo)
And The New York Times reports, “As early as this week, according to people briefed on the online retailer’s plans, Amazon will introduce a larger version of its Kindle wireless device tailored for displaying newspapers, magazines and perhaps textbooks.”
It is rumored that the screen will be larger to accomodate print media. And the possible addition of student texts would make the Kindle 3 a hot seller for the younger market. The price of the new device is still unknown. Will they bring the SD card slot back? And will color makes its debut on the Kindle 3? We will have to wait until Wednesday to find out!
